How To Download Music Into Your Ipod - An Easy To Understand Guide

These days pretty much everyone can afford the luxury of having some kind of personal sound system with which to enjoy their music wherever they go. The days of the Discman and the Walkman however are over, for today the most popular personal media device is the Ipod, a digital mp3 player which has taken the world by storm.

New technology such as the Ipod can add a huge amount of enjoyment to your day in many ways, whether it is easing the boredom of your train ride home from work or even making that early morning jog that much easier to complete. However all new technologies will come with some problems, the most common of these being the ease of use to the owner. Nothing could be more annoying than having this great piece of technology and not be able to take advantage of its features due to a lack of detailed instructions in how to use it. One of the most common problems people run into is exactly how to download music into your Ipod.
I must admit I did have some trouble downloading music from my computer to my Ipod when I first got it, so once I had it all figured out I thought a quick guide on how to download music into your Ipod would probably be quite appreciated. I hope this guide makes your Ipod experience that much easier and more enjoyable.

So the first step is obviously having music on your computer because there is no use in learning how to download music into your Ipod if you don't actually have any music in the first place. Music, usually in the form of mp3 files, can be obtained via various methods, either by downloading them from a subscriber site or converting your cd collection to mp3 via a conversion program. I have included a link to some great subscriber sites at the end of this article, some of which come with bonus converting software on signup which will allow you to convert your whole cd collection to digital mp3 form.

How To Download Music Into Your Ipod - An Easy To Understand Guide

The next step in our how to download music into your Ipod guide is of course to find the song or video you want to watch on the subscriber site. Once you have found the desired file, make sure you choose the Video Ipod/ Sony PSP download option. This is simply to ensure that you get the correct file type to be watched on your Ipod. Then you'll need to download the file to a place on your computer, it is best to create a folder called Ipodfiles or something similar so you will know exactly where they are. If of course you are using conversion software to convert your cd collection then the software will lead you through the process.

Once you have your music or movie on your computer, it is then time to connect your Ipod to your computer via its USB cord. On most computers there is a USB port at the front of the computer, otherwise it will be at the back just below where you plug in your keyboard and mouse.

Open the Apple iTunes application. Select 'Add File to Library' from the 'File' menu in the iTunes application. Browse your computer for the song you previously downloaded and click 'Open.' Then Click 'Edit,' then click 'Preferences in the iTunes application. Once that is done click the 'Ipod' tab, then click 'Songs,' and then 'Automatically update all Songs.' Lastly, you should click 'OK.'

This is where Apples ITunes software really comes into its own, as it will do all the work for you from this point on. It will automatically download all the music onto your Ipod for you, then all you need to do is select the file in your Ipod and you'll be good to go.

If all instructions above have been followed correctly you should now know how to download music into your Ipod and listen to it. As you can see, it is not a complicated process and you should be able to achieve this quite easily.

As mentioned above, one of the most important parts of this process is picking the right subscriber site. The wrong one will not have the selection you desire, and could end up costing you more than you are willing to pay if it charges download fees. So I have created a small page with links to two great Ipod sites which do not charge download fees and have a massive selection of songs and movies. But don't take my word for it, check them out for yourself and pick the right one for you because now you know how to download music into your Ipod you need a vast selection to choose from.

Music of the 70s

The 70's what a great decade for music and for music lovers too. Music of the 70's has had a lot of influence on the music we listen to today and of course there are some of us who still have some of our favorite 70's records and listen to them still. Some of the genres that really came into their own in the 1970's are Classic Rock, Disco, Southern Rock, Punk Rock, and the birth of Heavy Metal although it was originally known as Hard Rock as well. No matter if you were born into a younger generation there is more than likely a 70's song or album that you listen to so lets look at some great albums of the 70's.

More than likely, regarding the music of the 70's the music genre most closely related to that American decade is Disco, which really came on strong in the mainstream after the film "Saturday Night Fever". The soundtrack from that movie went on to become one of the greatest selling albums of all time too. Rolling Stone magazine in 2003 placed the album on their 500 greatest albums of all times list, and in the same year, VH1 called it the 57th greatest album of all time. With songs like "Staying Alive", "Night Fever", "If I Can't Have You", and "Boogie Shoes" it is no surprise that this album soared to the top.

Another genre that really increased in popularity during the 1970's is Southern Rock. There were a whole slew of Southern Rock bands in the 70's that really exploded on to that music scene too. Bands like the Allman Brothers, The Outlaws, and Molly Hatchet made some great music, but the ones who set the standard of Southern Rock music of the 70's is none other than Lynyrd Skynyrd. Lynyrd Skynyrd had four platinum albums in the 70's, three of which went double platinum. Street Survivors however, showcased the 3-guitar attack of Gaines, Collins, and Rossington behind Ronnie van Zant that other bands try to copy today making Street Survivor their most important album in the 70's.

Music of the 70s

The genre of Progressive Rock is another style of music that while born of Psychedelic Rock in the 60's, really made its bones on the back of earlier artists in the 70's. Bands like ELO, Utopia, Kansas, and Rush moved into the forefront of the genre maintaining the core of their listeners, while making Prog Rock Top 40 friendly as well. Of all the bands mentioned Rush really is the standard by which all other Prog Rock bands are measured by. Perhaps their most significant contribution in vinyl to music of the 70's is the bands album "2112", and the boss track on that album "Passage to Bangkok"

The last of the genres we are going to talk about is of course Heavy Metal, which assaulted Rock and Roll and went mainstream in the 70's Motorhead, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden found a home within the genre making fantastic music, but the band that made it all possible is of course Black Sabbath. The album "Black Sabbath" is the undisputed father of Heavy Metal music of the 70s as well as Heavy Metal 70's records. The three tracks that everyone mentions when discussing this musical masterpiece are "N.I.B.", "Black Sabbath", and "Warning" and all agree that this album is the greatest ever of the 1970's Metal scene.

History Of Gospel Music

Different individuals have various definitions of gospel music. But, for those who believe, this is a way for all to come together as one, honor the times of yore, look ahead to the future, and refurbish our faith. For those who believe, gospel music is a blissful noise for the Lord. It has also been said that gospel music can stir different emotions with its lyrics and tunes; hence, there is an increasing number of gospel music audiences around the world.

But when did gospel music really start? According to some studies, the history of gospel music dates back to the 18th century. This was an era where hymns were usually lined and repeated in a call and response fashion. On the other hand, the spiritual and work songs of the African slaves came along. These slaves were prohibited from many things and were punished for offending their masters. Such situations did not hinder them from worshipping and learning to create their own worship hymns, however.

From 1900 through the 1930s, gospel music was attributed to the social changes in the United States where blacks from the South were moving to other areas of the country with their own gospel music. After this period, noted people who are attributed to gospel music's success came into the picture.

History Of Gospel Music

During the 30s, Thomas A. Dorsey was given credit for the crucial development of gospel music. He created songs combining shouts of praise and emotional fervor with his won contemporary style. This was mostly unwelcomed in churches. This era in the history of gospel music was named the Dorsey Era and Thomas Dorsey was named the Father of Contemporary Gospel Music.

During the 1940s, gospel ensembles and quartets sprang to life. These groups traveled all over the U.S., creating a demand for this type of music. On the other hand, the 50s brought the piano and the organ to gospel music. Some performers on this era were The Clara Ward Singers, The Staple Singers of Chicago, and Albertina Walker.

Nowadays, gospel music is still evolving. Many gospel music artists even believe that it is now coming into the mainstream and that they are to introduce gospel music to the mainstream audience.

Reggae Music

A genre of music developed on the Jamaican shores, Reggae music is a form of music which follows rhythm and musical beats. In fact, one of the main traits of this music is that there is stress on the 2nd and 4th music beat of the melody. The guitar takes care of the third beat or the chord for the 2nd beat is held till the 4th one is played. The use of difficult bass lines and the use of speedy third beat is what differentiate the reggae from other genres of music.

Staple characteristics of Reggae melodies:

One of the most important and noteworthy musical characteristics of the reggae music is that it is played in swing time or 4/4 time. This is because of the way and the pattern of rhythms followed in a piece of music. It is characterized by the presence of simple melodies and pieces of music. So simple it is that one may sometimes find just a chord or two in the entire musical piece.

Reggae Music

The reggae music is characterized by the use of certain instruments. These are main instruments for this form of music and are below mentioned apart from the regular vocals.

>> Drums such as the Tom-Tom and snare drums are used to create a distinct reggae feel.

>> Percussion includes the use of bongos, cowbells, shakers and the claves along with African cross rhythms.

>> Keyboards play the staccato style to add more melody to the music

>> Bass plays an extremely important role in the music of this sort

>> Guitar techniques such as skank are used and the chords played are on beat 2 and 4

>> Lyrical themes such as light criticism of the society and other person things

>> Horns are used for mainly introductions and counter melodies

Related genres and subgenres:

Dancehall, Hip Hop and Dub are said to be derivatives of the reggae music. The subgenres include Roots reggae, Lovers rock and Reggae en Español whereas the fusion genres include Reggaeton, Seggae, Reggae fusion, Samba reggae and 2 Tone. Countries like Africa, Phillipines, New Zealand, Australia, Nigeria and even Poland are considered to be the hotspots for this particular genre of music.

Reggae Progression over years:

Over the years, one can find a lot of influences of other genres of music on the reggae music industry. In fact, it has been mixed with pop, rock and roll and hip hop music to create music that has enthralled music lovers over the years.

There have been many bands and solo artists who have tasted success by mixing this style of music with other genres. An example in sight is a famous music band Beatle. Their song "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" is a rock song with reggae inspired beats. Singers like Bunny Lee, Desmond Dekker, Clancy Eccles, Prince Buster, Larry Marshall, Johnny Nash and Jackie Mittoo are considered to be icons of this music style industry.
